Fatty Foods

As mentioned previously, fatty foods happen to be the leading cause of heartburn. Fatty food is a little hard on the digestive system, so it takes a prolonged time for the human body to digest foods high in fat completely. Foods may include food like red meat, butter, cheese, cream, desserts like pastries and cakes, etc. So if you’ve just had a cheesy pizza with meat toppings, your body will undoubtedly find it difficult to digest. Acid Dominated Foods

Some food items are already intact with acidic substances, including citrus fruits like pineapple, oranges, lemon, grapefruit, etc. Other than that, vinegar and baking soda also stand to be some of the most acidic ingredients. So if you are prone to gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD, be careful with your fruit bowls, olive oil or vinaigrette dressings, or fluffy pancakes. These foods are already packed with acid and cause more trouble after entering the digestive tract, as they mix with additional stomach acid.

Spicy Foods

Spicy food may feel good to taste, but its flavors are too intense for the mouth and stomach to handle. They can irritate the digestive tract, which may result in heartburn. Other than that, chilies contain capsaicin, which adds a spicy flavor to any food. But along with that, capsaicin is also known for delaying the gastric system’s functioning. This causes the food to stay in the stomach for a longer period and produce more acidic substances, which would give rise to an irritated and upset stomach, heartburn, and acid reflux. 

Fried Foods

All love fried foods, but they come with a set of side effects too, which can cost your body more than you know. Fried foods contain tons of fatty substances like oil and butter, which increases the overall fat percentage of the food and makes it heavier to digest. When food becomes excessively heavy, the stomach processes it slower, and the duration of the fried food’s presence in your body increases. This again causes inflammation in the internal lining of the stomach and excessive acid production. The result of all of these things is heartburn.
